Dive equipment FAQs

What is the purpose of surface detection aids?

Surface detection aids assist the support boat in monitoring and finding divers on the surface after a dive. In addition, if you are doing a dive from the shore, surface detection aids prevent you from being struck by boat traffic. If you are drift diving a surface detection aid also known as a sausage will mark your position.

What kind of measurement and navigation equipment is available?

You can use a compass to keep your bearings for underwater navigation. It's also important to have measurement tools to avoid decompression sickness. These include decompression tables, a depth gauge, a distance line, a dive computer, and a waterproof watch with a depth gauge to be used in conjunction with decompression tables.

What kind of tools can I buy at a dive equipment store?

There are many modern tools available to help you explore the underwater depths. An airlift is a gas used in topical archaeology. It vacuums small objects as well as sand and mud from the ocean bottom. To take pictures of your underwater adventure you can buy a waterproof camera and housing set. A dry box allows the diver to bring items into the depths that he wants to keep dry. Finally, you can purchase a lifting bag to bring heavy underwater objects back to the surface. Simply load the object into the bag, activate the air release button, and the bag will flow to back to the surface with you.
